Power of Nature

After an amazing week away in the mountains (thanks to my very kind mum-in-law), I am feeling the benefit of having spent a week mainly outdoors, surrounded by the awe-inspiring snow-covered peaks and soaking in the light (even on the two days it rained, it is somehow brighter up there!)

It's not only being outdoors, the physical activity of skiing and sledging and getting kids dressed into snowsuits, but there is something about the mountains that helps me put things in perspective.

Over the last two weeks the feeling that keeps coming back to me is 'acceptance' - accept that I have many different emotions happening at the moment, that they are not 'good' or 'bad' they are just what they are... that it is okay to feel sadness, bitterness and anger all at the same time and then to find myself laughing at my child's antics or a lovely memory. It's all OK.

It's amazing that when we stop fighting our emotions and start to accept them - they find a way to move by themselves... we are learning and growing and moving too.

These emotions do not need 'fixing', we do not need to 'get over them' - they are what they are, what has happened has happened, what will happen in the future non of us have any idea of...

However what is sure is that there will be constant change, that change will bring up many emotions and if we go about life being scared of the 'hard' ones, then we are going to be very anxious about what the future may hold...

For the moment I will remember looking out at this amazing view.

... and this will help to let me accept where I am at each moment ...

I hope these words speak out to you too, in whatever mix of emotions you are feeling right now. Assure yourself that they are OK - not "good" or "bad"... just part of what makes up you at this moment...

Enjoy the cold crisp days in Brussels for the next week!
